Case Study- Cairn India

Background

Cairn Energy PLC is a global oil and gas exploration company. It has operational interests in Albania, Bangladesh, Greenland, India, Nepal and Tunisia and produces around 33,000 barrels of oil equivalentper day. Its major activities are in India, where it has made more than 20 discoveries in Rajasthan, including a major oil discovery in Mangala. Cairn India is operating in many areas that face economic,social and environmental challenges.

English Satellite Centre at Enterprise Centre (Barmer)

As a special initiative, Cairn, in partnership with IFC, has converted a large ITI in Barmer, Rajasthan, into an Enterprise Centre. Programmes run by the EC are primarily around employment-oriented skill development. One such initiative is English language training for the local youth, which reaches out to students and trainees of three ITIs, a Polytechnic and a few local colleges. The students are charged a nominal fee, the remaining is subsidized under Cairn’s CSR programme. Liqvid is Cairn’s Partner for English Language Training.

Why Liqvid?

Liqvid’s bilingual English language course is available in 10 regional languages (e.g. Hindi to English). Itholds special relevance for players working across the country on different skill building initiatives. HCL- Confederation of NGO’s of Rural India and Team Lease are some of the big names using the product.

Liqvid's Approach

Liqvid follows the Digital training (ILT & CBT) approach, which allows the trainer to leverage technology to teach students in a more engaging way. The course at Enterprise Center travels from Bilingual approach (Hindi to English) to a monolingual approach (English to English). The training component alsoincludes soft skills, personality and grooming modules. The students get to practise through computer-based activities. The unique record-compare feature provides ample speaking practice to the learners.

Steps to Superior Training Delivery

Liqvid hastaken the following steps to ensure quality of training delivery:-

  1. Identifying local trainers from Rajasthan: To ensure continuity of learning for the students, qualified trainers are identified and trained to conduct
  2. The trainer is trained as Master Trainer and monitors training at all Satellite Centres in Rajasthan
  3. Generates monthly trainer reports and sends it to the SPOC at These reports include the sessions covered for the satellite centres along with the time spent on each course.
